Newberry Wedding {10.06.12}
I was so happy to have had the opportunity to share Travis and Chelsea's special day with them! The ceremony was absolutely beautiful. The weather was about as perfect as it could get. The bridesmaids and groomsmen were so much fun to work with. All in all, the day was PERFECT!! I couldn't be more happy for these two. I can't believe after growing up together Travis is actually married and that they chose me to capture one of the most important days of their lives. There are many, many more to come! Congratulations Mr. & Mrs. Newberry!!!

Travis & Chelsea Engagement
Hello again!!
It's been a while, but I have finally returned to the blogging world with my most recent photo session.
About eight years ago in my seventh grade math class I made a new friend, Travis. I'm pretty sure I made him say his hometown's name 100 times because his country accent cracked me up (and that says a lot coming from my small town). If it weren't for him, I probably would have failed that class miserably as well. Thinking back, it almost seems surreal that in just a couple of weeks he is getting married! I am so excited for them and honored that I get to capture their special day! Here are the shots from their engagement session.

Dear Fellow Photo Lovers...
Hello Hello again!!
I have been a little behind on blogging in the past week and I apologize (for those of you who have been keeping up with them). I have been so swamped with getting everything done for finals that I haven't had the time to sit down blog my heart out, so to speak. Today was the last day of this semester (yipee! only one more to go!) and I think it is safe to say that my brain is officially FRIED!! That being said, I am going to keep this one short, sweet, and to the point.
I have recently hopped on the Twitter bandwagon (follow me: @SheilaD_Photog) and found I am already following quite a few different people, trends, Tweeters, or whatever the proper term is. (Sorry, I haven't quite figured out the "lingo" yet.) Anywho, I have been following one for a website called www.photojojo.com. Some of you may have already heard about it and visited before, but for those of you who haven't, check it out!!! If you love photography even half as much as I do you will instantly fall in love. Stop on by their store and check out all their cool gadgets, accessories, and just plain fun stuff!
Here is a little sneak peak at some of my favorite items that you will find in their store:

A Photoshop Keyboard skin for your computer's keyboards with all the PS shortcuts visible. Imagine how much quicker you could fly through editing with this thing?!

Camera cookie cutters?? There goes any hopes of losing any weight for summer...

Coffee is slowly but surely becoming my new best friend. Why not have it in a camera lens mug while you're at it??

Cute little twin lens huh? Not only is it cute, but you get a kit to build your own and learn how it works from the inside out! History lesson anyone?

F-Stop bracelet? Don't mind if I do...
Thanks for stopping by!!

Coming To A Close
For those of you who don't know, I am a student at Nossi College of Art here in Nashville. To give you an idea of what the program is like, it consists of six semesters (two years) of mostly hands-on classes. (ie. I don't have to take English, Math, History; I take Fashion, Portrait, Commercial Advertising, ect. )
I am currently finishing up my fifth semester. Only one more to go! Woo hoo!! I have loved this program and everything I have learned so far and needless to say it has been far from easy. I have had some difficulty in other semesters, but this one has definitely taken the cake. In January I walked back into school PUMPED about this semester. PUMPED about Commercial Advertising. PUMPED about Sports. PUMPED about Photojournalism. PUMPED about Web Design and finally building my site. Two weeks into it I was no longer "pumped." I hit the biggest creative block ever and it took a toll on everything.
I was especially looking forward to Commercial Advertising. I have always liked Advertising (even though technically that's not what we do) and I was excited to spend a semester trying my hand at product AND having one of my favorite teachers to top it off. The way the class works is we have a short list of types of items we have to shoot such as one food and one drink, and the rest of the time we shoot whatever we want however we want. Once the semester got kicked into gear I realized I had no ideas.... Everyone was breezing through with beautiful, creative work. Not me. I spent hours researching ideas. Nothing. I asked people for ideas. Still nothing. Before I knew it I was overwhelmed, frustrated, and simply did not even want to go to class. What few ideas I came up with I would shoot and hate. Finally it took me sitting down and staring at a blank sheet of paper determined to come up with some ideas, anything. I once again asked people for ideas, received one, and boom it was over! I saw exactly how I wanted the setup to look from the backdrop, props, lighting everything. After that, I could not write the ideas down fast enough! I became much more excited about going to class and getting work done and was really pleased with what I was producing.
If/when any of you ever find yourself in the same shoes as I was,
keep trying, thinking, brainstorming. Do whatever it takes, just don't
give up. Remember that EVERYONE goes through this, even if you can't
see it at the time. If God brings you to it he will most certainly
bring you through it. :)
I want to share some of my favorites with you. I am proud of them, and while they may not be the best in the world, they are a million times better than what I was working with in the beginning.
